Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 17, 2026

Effective date: October 17, 2026
Applies to: the CogMyra website (cogmyra.com) and the CogMyra apps for iPhone and Android.

Who we are

CogMyra is provided by CogMyra, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“CogMyra”, “we”, “us”). “You” means the person using CogMyra.

Contact: hello@cogmyra.com.

The short version

1. Who can use CogMyra

Ages 13 and up. CogMyra is not for children under 13. When you start, we ask your age group (under 13, 13 to 17, or 18 or older) and keep only the group, never your birth date. If you choose under 13, we do not create an account, and the device cannot try again for a day. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email hello@cogmyra.com and we will delete it.

Learners aged 13 to 17. Teens may use CogMyra. Before the first chat, every learner sees a plain explanation that CogMyra is an AI coach, that their messages are sent to Anthropic to write replies, and how to change that choice; they must agree before chatting. For learners under 18, the coach keeps content age appropriate, does not ask for personal details such as a full name, school, address, phone number or social media, and its safety checks are stricter. We encourage teens to read this policy with a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians can contact us at hello@cogmyra.com about a teen’s account, including to ask us to delete it. We do not sell or share the information of anyone, including learners under 16.

Through a school, college or employer. If you use CogMyra through an organization’s license, see section 9.

Voice. When you use voice typing or Talk mode, your phone, or your browser’s or device maker’s speech service (for example Apple, Google or Microsoft), turns your speech into text. In the app and on the website, we tell you before the first time if that happens off your device, and it happens only if you agree. CogMyra receives only the text you send, never a recording.

Myra’s voice. When you use read aloud or Talk with Myra, the words of the coach’s reply are sent to OpenAI to be turned into speech in one consistent voice, and the audio comes straight back to your device to play. Only the reply’s words are sent: never your voice, and never your own messages. Replies can include your name or details you shared in the chat. Neither we nor OpenAI keep the audio for CogMyra, and under OpenAI’s API terms this data is not used to train its models. If Myra’s voice is not available, your device’s own voice reads instead. The explanation you agree to before your first chat names OpenAI for this.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, browsing history outside CogMyra, advertising identifiers, biometric data or government ID numbers. We do not use facial recognition.

3. How we use it

We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles. We do not use your chats, files or notes to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s.

4. AI processing by Anthropic

The coach’s replies are written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC. To write a reply, we send Anthropic your message, the recent messages in that chat, any photos or files in them, and the context the coach needs (your name, age group, setting and note). The safety checks and the honesty check also use Anthropic models.

The same agreement covers our other AI features. If you add a syllabus, we send it to Anthropic to read its outcomes or its dates. If you have learning outcomes, we send the recent messages of a chat to Anthropic, after the chat has gone quiet, to suggest which outcomes it practiced. If you tell My Semester you are behind, we send what you wrote and the dates of your work to Anthropic to write a plan. None of these run without your agreement, and we do not log what is sent.

Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, this data is not used to train AI models, and we have not opted into any training. Anthropic keeps it for a limited time for abuse and safety monitoring, under its own policy, then deletes it.

You agree to this before your first chat, in the app or on the website, and we record your answer with its date. You can turn it off at any time in the app (Me, then Privacy and your data) or on the website (your account page). With it off, the coach pauses, because it cannot reply without Anthropic; your chats and other data stay until you delete them.

AI can make mistakes. Check anything important with a trusted source.

5. Safety checks

Every message you send, with any photos or files, is checked by an AI model before the coach answers. Every reply the coach writes is checked too, as soon as it is written: most replies appear on screen as they are written and are checked when they are finished, and a reply that fails the check is replaced on screen right away. When a learner presses for the answer to their own work, the reply is held and checked before any of it is shown. My Semester’s catch-up plans are checked before they are shown. A message that is not right for a learning app gets a short, kind reply instead of an answer. A learner who may be at risk gets a caring reply that points to people who can help, such as the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States.

When a check stops a message or a reply, we keep a record for the CogMyra team to review: the category, a short reason, and for a coach reply, the reply that was held back. Your own message stays in your chat and is not copied into that record. These records are deleted with your account.

CogMyra is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.

9. Schools, colleges and employers

When an organization licenses CogMyra for its learners, we provide CogMyra to that organization as a service provider. For school use, we act as a “school official” with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA, under the organization’s direction. We use student information only to provide CogMyra to the student and the organization, never for advertising, never sold, and never to build profiles for any purpose other than the student’s learning in CogMyra. An organization can ask us to delete its students’ information. Organizations cannot read learners’ chats.

School calendars and school accounts. A learner, not the school, chooses to connect a school calendar link or school account, and we only read from it. Where CogMyra offers a Google Classroom or Google Calendar connection, CogMyra’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

10. Your choices and rights

In the app or on the website, you can:

You can also email hello@cogmyra.com to ask for a copy of your data, a correction, deletion, or to object to how we use it. We reply within 30 days and may need to confirm it is you. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

California and other US states. We give these rights to everyone, wherever they live. We do not sell or share personal information as those words are defined in California law, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. This policy is our notice at collection: section 2 lists what we collect, section 3 why, section 7 who we share it with to run CogMyra, and section 8 how long we keep it.

11. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, access rules in our database so each learner can reach only their own data, limited and logged staff access, and private storage for photos and files reached only through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

12. Cookies (website)

The website uses only cookies it needs to work: to keep you signed in and to protect against attacks. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies or third-party analytics. The apps do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

13. Business transfers

If CogMyra, Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of its business or assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. Anyone who receives it must keep honoring this policy for the information collected under it, including the commitments on chats, students and AI training. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy, so you can delete your account first if you choose.

14. Where data is processed

CogMyra is run from the United States, and our providers process data mainly in the United States. CogMyra is offered in the United States and is not directed to people in other countries. If you use CogMyra from another country, your information is processed in the United States.

15. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date, post it at cogmyra.com/privacy, and tell you in the app, on the website or by email before the change takes effect. If a change means using information you already gave us in a new way, we will ask first.
